Matt Pontbriant graduated from St Bernard’s high school in 1990. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners but chose to go to Brevard Junior College in Melbourne FlL where he quickly became the ace of the staff and was drafted and signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in the 8th round. Matt played 6 seasons with the Pirates and retired in 1996 after his second arm surgery. Matt was selected to play in the South Atlantic Leagues All Star team in 1994.
Matt is in his 7th  season as pitching coach at many levels in the program. Matt has two sons Griffen and Dominic. Griffen a 2021 graduate of NFA and a freshman pitcher at ECSU where he helped the team win their 5th national title. His youngest son Dominic is one of the best lefty pitchers in the area.
Matt resides in norwich with his wife Nancy and sons .
